Party Books and Veggie Food

This holiday season I'm a little bit nervous because the xmas dinner is going to be in our house and we are vegetarian the only problem is the rest of my family is not. So I'm getting a little bit of help between books, the food network and the internet. So I decided with my mom that she can make a her famous dish "BACALAO" is with sea food and veggies and I can make a "PESTO PASTA". I copy the recipe from Racheal Ray. So this is going to be the non-traditional part of the dinner and of course we are going to have the traditional: potatoes, salad, dessert, etc. Hope it works!

Xmas Theme

Here is the theme that I'm working for the holiday season. After seeing some of Oh Joy!'s work I feel inspired to do my own cards, gift wrapping paper, tags and ornaments. Hello There!

After giving me a break from blogging for almost a month I'm back. November has been a busy month between celebrating my birthday, my first wedding anniversary, thanksgiving and keeping up with the dogs... I'm already beat. But I have to recharge the batteries because this year Christmas its going to be at my house. Hallogone

Every year is the same. You expect halloween for more than six months and it happens to go so quickly. That's the feeling that Charlie Brown and Linus share with us in the "Great Pumpkin". Oh well. This year Yan and I decided to go as "The Corpse Bride" and "Jack" from The nightmare before Christmas, but we never make it to the party, he was to tired to go ( he's been working extra hard). Hopelly next year will make it and I'm already thinking of the costume: Goth couple "Marilyn and Dita".

Bath Makeover

This is my bathroom but I need some accessories to keep with the fun orange scheme. Right now all I have is this Ikea curtain and a Jonathan Adler rug that I found in Ross. So I was thinking to accessories with the same solid orange but I'm having a really hard to find modern pieces and after many searches only two stores help me: bed, bath and beyond help because they have a Jonathan Adler line and Wrapables for their fun stuff of accesories and textiles.

If you know of any stores with orange bath stuff please let me know

Doggies Guide to Fall

I'm looking for a cool-retro sweater for my dogs for the fall/winter. Petco has great fall options and even better they are affordable. No crazy prices like most pet apparel. Also Old Navy has great stuff and don't forget Target if you are looking for the designer touch. So I will stick with Petco for the old-school feeling and even pick up a cool squeaky toy.

Talking Mid-Century

A couple of weeks ago I saw these 1950's bird curtain in the urban outfitters page and I love them. But today I saw them in a blog and fell in love all over again. Hope to buy them next week.

I just purchase the new copy of Blueprint and I have to say it’s pretty good. I was not impressed with the first issue, it showcases pretty things but I thought it was unapproachable, full out of my league. But this one it’s very down to earth and has great DIY stuff. So maybe... maybe I will give Blueprint another chance.

Pampered Puppy

Today is a good day! Each month I enter my dogs to this contest at pampered puppy. The prices are really nice and you get to see other cute dogs. So for the first time after just getting honorable mentions we won our first contest!! Permanent Ink

Here is one of the coolest girls in TV that I have seen in a while or just maybe the only cool girl on TV. Her name is Kat Von D and you can see her on TLC "Miami Ink". She does the most beautiful black and grey tattoo portraits, specially the pin-ups-Vargas girl’s type. Here is a little more info about her:

The new girl. She brings the meow to the Miami mix. She originally filled in at Miami Ink while Darren Brass is on the mend. The 24-year old Kat performed her first tattoo at age 14 and has been pursuing her passion for tattooing ever since. She began working at her first shop at the young age of 16 and has been working with Chris Garver for over a year now. For her, this experience to be one of the most educational and fulfilling of her life.
Kat is attracted to the realistic tattoos and her personal style gravitates towards portrait and realism, mostly on a black and grey scale. Kat loves playing classical piano as well as heavy metal music, and she is known by her closest friends to be the biggest party animals west of the Mississippi.

Speaking of tattoos... Me and my hubby want to get some ... maybe something beautiful, dark and whimsical.

I really want a tattoo of my dogs (chihuahua & schnauzer) like this!

But I would get something like this... a celebration of life and love and I think I would design it. Like a mix of stuff that I like... portraits, love, a rooster, my pet’s initials, the number 13, etc. etc.

Ghost World Decor

Lately I have been obsessing about Seymour's bedroom. This has to be besides the Royal Tenenbaums Living room my all time favorite room in the movies. From the color of the walls, to the pin-ups, to pulp, to the couch to the coolest movie posters ever: Mexican actor Tin-Tan!! I just love it. So I been searching the net for some the items, to get that feeling in my living room.

Interiors from Ghost World

Besides the great script and plot... I really love Ghost World because of their colorful sets. Bold colors, art and furniture. I specially love Seymour's room. I would love to have a room like that... sophisticated fun with a retro twist. Enid's room is cute too. Love the leopard print ottoman. Clearly Daniel Clowes is a fan of animals & mid-century prints. Scrapbooking

Right now I'm into scrapbooking... I was going to do it the traditional way of cut and paste but it gets to expensive and also I couldn’t find any retro-modern paper for my theme wedding. Comic-Con 2006

On Saturday my sister, my brother-in law and I went to comic-con. It was my first time... I was little bit tired from the night before but I have fun, lots of walking, freebies and a lot of crazy people in costumes. I saw the Shag conference and it’s was cute. He talks about his childhood, influences and of course his work. We also saw Henry Rollins, Suicide Girls and some of the cast of Star Wars Episode One. All in all it was cool, so hope to see you next year.

Veggie Works

After many tries Yan and I finally decided to be veggie people, we just moved to San Diego after living in Mexico, our diet went from tacos to burgers. So after getting tired of not having the time to cook, a car and the right ingredients we decided to make a huge change and commit to the right stuff: Eating healthy! So I did a lot of searching and being a new cook a wanted a book to have easy ingredients and easy recipes and my answer was: Student's Vegetarian Cookbook, Revised: Quick, Easy, Cheap, and Tasty Vegetarian Recipes. It's great I loved it. I also bought the Teany Book; it’s a fun read about the teany restaurant and his owner musician Moby. I hope to buy Vegan with a Vengeance.

Color Scheme

My favorite fabric estore: is repro depot fabrics. It's specialist in vintage and retro patterns, also besides fabrics there sale buttons, trims, patches, ribbons and they have a home & kids section. Great for arts and crafts.

So if you are looking for a special pattern turn to repro depot you won’t regret it.

Winter wonderland in Summer

The shimmering magic of snowfall is always transfixing, whether it’s outside your window or inside this classic toy. Homemade globes let you create a wintry scene straight out of your own imagination. Almost any jar works for this project: Baby-food, pimiento, and olive jars are good choices. Look for plastic or ceramic figurines (metal ones are prone to rust) at flea markets and hobby or model-railroad shops. Synthetic evergreen tips are available at many floral-supply stores. If the jar lids are not in seasonal colors already, paint them with oil-based enamel paint. Sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough. With clear-drying epoxy, adhere the figurine to the inside of the lid, and let the epoxy dry. Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water; add a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin (available at drugstores) to keep the glitter from falling too quickly. Don’t add too much, or the glitter will stick to the bottom of the jar when it’s flipped. Screw on the lid tightly, being careful not to dislodge the figurine. Turn the jar over and back again—and let it snow.

As a visual person I buy a lot of magazines and I mean a lot.
I just recently move to another place and after a lot of soul searching I donate most of my collection of fashion magazines. It was really hard but I know my magazines are with a caring person ( drama). Well after that I decided to subscribe only to one magazine and occasionally buy the ones who really really speak to me. So here are the nominees:

Ikea Remix

I just bought this Ikea Chair for $20 dlls (actual price $80 dlls) but I need more than just a white chair. I was thinking of covering it... There's an actual webpage that sales cool cover for ikea furniture call Bemz, but i prefer to make it myself, so i went to ebay an search for inexpensive modern-retro fabrics and I found 8 that I really like. Now the problem is wich one shoul I buy! I need help!

Snippy World

Michael Roberts is known for his striking and instantly recognizable pen-and-ink sketches, acrylic paintings and intensely witty New Yorker covers created from cut paper. His work captures the trends, shortcomings and fashionability of modern times.
In 2005, Roberts book "The Snippy World of New Yorker Fashion" was released. It includes over 100 pages of his work that was featured in Paris Vogue, Tatler, Interview, and, of course, The New Yorker. The coffee table book boasts grade-A commentary from the likes of fashion legends Anna Wintour, André Leon Talley, Manolo Blahnik and John Galliano. Tina Brown, the celebrated New Yorker editor, called him the "Jean Cocteau of the fashion world," while Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue, wrote the introduction where she deems his work "fiendishly accurate satire."
In a strategic move, Roberts, who has enjoyed a long career as the fashion director at the New Yorker, decided to jump ship and take over the role as the style director of Vanity Fair in 2006. Rumor has it that in his first month in this new position he really shook things up in the fashion department - prompting a number of title changes and re-shoots for two upcoming potential covers. Radio Radiante
